I live with John Colter sort of...
A couple of weeks ago my husband and I celebrated our sixth anniversary by taking a little trip away from home and at the same time he also volunteered to to do a living history presentation at Edy Ridge Elementary in Sherwood, Oregon. He portrays John Colter, mountain man and Discovery Corps member of the Lewis and Clark party. My sister Susan's a 4th grade teacher. Grade 4 is a time they learn about Lewis and Clark. All the 4th grades were included and 100+ of the best behaved kids I've seen came to the party. He's very good, stays in his character throughout the whole visit and tells many interesting stories including Colter's remarkable run in 1809 from the Blackfeet in his birthday suit. Here he is telling one of John's true life tales. Colter packed an amazing amount of living into his brief 39 years, including being the first white man to see the bubbling pools and geysers of Yellowstone.

This is sister Susan taking in the show with her son who got half a day off from his school to join the fun. It's a wonderful, brand new school and the staff was welcoming and helpful.

We had a very good time. Probably one of the best anniversaries we've had. I really enjoyed sharing our celebration with family, eating together and visiting the sights of Portland, OR, especially our extended visit to Powell's book store where we tried to spend all of our spare $$.

Happy anniversary. Sounded the perfect thing to do to celebrate the occasion.
